Not only the overweight people have problems with GERD. If you were of normal weight and experienced a gain then youare more prone to reflux. The higher the BMI the worse it can get. Given that excess weight is linked to a host of otherailments including heart disease, cancer and diabetes, you could bedoing yourself a bigger favor than just ridding yourself ofheartburn.
