Good if you are newly diagnosed, 2002-07-11
For me, this book was way too basic. I have had GERD for a few years and have had a lot of discussions with doctors, gastroenterologists, etc. about how to manage it. I have tried all the lifestyle and diet modifications with little success, and hoped to find out about some natural alternatives to improve my stomach health. Unfortunately, this book had very little to offer for someone like me. It focused on the diet and lifestyle modifications, then spent only a page on what to try if those things don't work. The simplistic "You don't have to live with acid reflux if you just eat right and change your lifestyle" message really bothered me, because for some of us it just isn't true. And for those of us who need more, the book didn't help at all.I still rated it 2 stars because if you're newly diagnosed with GERD/acid reflux or if you think you might have it, this book would be a great introduction to the lifestyle and diet changes that do help many people. Don't expect much - the acid reflux section is short. But if you're just looking for the basics, slightly more than you get from a typical doctor's office pamphlet, this book may help you.
