Designed for patients with acid reflux, problem breathing, poor circulation, hiatals hernia, back or neck problems. Can also be used for foot or leg elevation. This pillow provides a comfortable, gradual slope and uses gravity to keep reflux down and airways open. For hygienic reasons pillows/wedges are non-returnable. Such a simple solution for nighttime acid reflux. I wish my doctor had had me try this first instead of just resorting to a prescription! I got the 7-inch height rather then the 12-inch, and it creates plenty of elevation for me (granted, I'm pretty small). But I feel like the 12-inch wedge would feel like sitting upright, and might be better as a reading-in-bed pillow but not so great for sleeping. 7-inch creates enough elevation to alleviate reflux, but I still feel like I'm lying down. This pillow is also great for reading in bed with a pillow or two stacked on top. And I admit, my fiance and I have come up with a few other fun uses for it in the bedroom. :) The pillow initially had a bit of an unpleasant foam smell, but this has dissipated. I put a towel over it and that seemed to solve the problem. Shipment arrived quickly and in great condition.
